…you’ll keep getting what you’re getting.“
An offhand comment from Miriam Swaffield over a month ago now, has stuck by me.
She was talking about moving to Middlesborough from York, about trying to find a braver story, and about being uncomfortable in comfort.
Everything that is braver takes effort, she said, because if it didn’t take effort, it would have happened already. And because it requires effort, there will always be reasons not to do it.
In a month of goodbyes, greenbelt, and anticipation of as yet unknown new things to come, this reflection alone has helped me lean into the change rather than shrink from it.
“If you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep getting what you’re getting.”
What does it mean to live a braver story? What do we want to see happen differently, and what can we do differently to make that happen?

Rachel, Great and valuable post. Change is frightening to many. But well worth the risk when we realize that we are not in the right place.

Beautiful post. This is so encouraging. I’m learning to lean into change as well, rather than be frightened by it, and to fully embrace the lot that the LORD has assigned me, knowing that He has so much good for me if I simply trust Him and let Him lead me where He will. He is so good!
