Last Wednesday was our ‘Halfway Hall’ – a formal meal to mark being 50% of the way through our degrees!
The grace spoken over us at the start of the meal was as follows:
For food in a hungry world,
Companionship in a world of loneliness,
Peace in the midst of violence,
We give thanks.
How much we had, and still have, to give thanks for!
In the middle of the meal the Senior Tutor, Liba Taub, spoke to us – with the take home point being that, ‘tonight is the first night of the rest of your lives’. This, I guess, is true, but we were all pretty amused + entirely failed to take this seriously on the basis that every single night is the first night of the rest of our lives. We were possibly a lil’ too cynical for our own good.
It was truly lovely to have so many of the year in the same place at the same time! It doesn’t happen often, the only other time I can think of being our matriculation in first year – and we all know each other a whole lot better than on that night of our first formal hall. Halfway hall was something really rather special.
Plus, we didn’t pass up on the opportunity to dress up nicely and take photos….
….or to enjoy the free wine (of which the consequences are evident in the photo below)
Here’s to being thankful, to being halfway, and to still being a whole three and a half terms away from graduation!
(And also, here’s to the existence of Cindies)
